Duration of the exhibition: 19.3 – 17.4.2022

The solo exhibition There is a light that never goes out presents a selection from the current and still dynamically developing work of Ľubomíra Sekerášová. A distinctive representative of the young generation of domestic visual artists, she is primarily devoted to figurative painting, drawing and occasional spatial realisations, dominated by an expressive handwriting and frequent use of monochromatic colouring. Sekerášová is fascinated by all things supernatural – science fiction, divinity, occultism or myths, which she combines with philosophy, decadence, dark atmosphere or personal mythology. On the thin edge between fact and bent reality, he inserts the scenes into wild and romanticising natural landscapes that are characteristically marked by his work with contrasting dramatic light, shadows or luminous contours. Direct experience with the artist’s works evokes a rush of different emotions leaning towards the negative spectrum of feelings. However, the intensity is subdued and, rather than screaming at us, they just bubble nervously beneath the surface. Or is it just the emblematic calm before the storm? – Michal Stolárik, curator
